Chicago: Day 5

March 20th, 2008 by TheCore

- Get out of bed and pack. Have breakfast at the restaurant downstairs and try to decide what to do with my luggage until it’s time to go to the airport. Discover that the hotel will actually hold onto it for me, even after I’ve checked out.

- Grab a taxi to the Field Museum. Check my flight info on the iPhone. It’s delayed but I don’t alter my plans.

- Spend a few hours hitting the highlights at the museum. I could easily spend all day there, but decide it’s better to see a little of everything than a lot of a few things.

- Am not as impressed by Sue the T-Rex skeleton as I thought I might be.

- Grab a taxi back to the hotel for my luggage, then off to the airport. After check-in and security, I’m still two hours early for my flight. Hit up the airport Chili’s and have a nice, leisurely dinner. Still an hour to kill afterward.

- Make my way down to the gate, which is full of people. Get settled in and am told five minutes later that the flight is changing gates.

- Head down to the new gate, where time is killed. Finally break down and buy a Chicago shot glass at the last possible moment.

- Flight home is uneventful. Seatmates are, yet again, nondescript middle-aged gentlemen. Fire up the iPhone and bid farewell to Chicago.

- Home safe and sound!
