I’m a dad

What's that you're doing there?

Well, sort of.

This is Parker, my new dog. He’s a chihuahua, but you can probably figure that out. My apologies for the dark picture. He didn’t like the camera, and I have a feeling adding a strong flash to it would have assured that I’d never get another picture of him again. I did use a flash, but I deflected it toward the ceiling.

Anyway…

I’d been kicking around the idea of getting a dog for a long time, but I kept talking myself out of it. So I just decided to up and do it. I found him through Petfinder a couple weeks ago and got him today.

He’s a little skittish right now. I’d say his original owners didn’t treat him very well, but he’s warming up to me. He has trust issues (just like his dad!) but I’m sure he’ll be fine before long. Once he gets used to me, I’m also sure he’ll warm up to humanity in general, at least to the folks I know. He’s a calm and quiet dog, and not a licker, and he doesn’t seem to want to get into stuff (which is good, since I have a shitload of it), so I think he and I will get along famously.

Why get a dog? I dunno, it’s hard to say exactly, other than I believe it will be therapeutic. A cat would have been more ideal, but I don’t particularly like cats (and vice-versa), and they seem to tickle my allergies a lot more than dogs.

At any rate, the dog is asleep now, and I should be too, so until next time, stay tuned…

    Yay! Congratulations, guy. :)

Pets really are therapeutic. Whenever I live on my own, I’m definitely having a cat or two.
