Coming and going

Can we bloggers get together and ratify some sort of international standard for the meaning of “next” and “previous?” A number of blogs I visit every day have links at the bottom of the page to navigate backward and forward in time, and somehow they all seem to behave exactly the opposite of how I’d expect.

Some treat “previous” as the last page I viewed, while others treat “previous” as linking to posts written before the page I’m currently viewing. Some pages put “previous” on the left, some pages put it on the right.

Let’s just pick one and go with it, OK? At the very least, put in some explanatory text. Help a brother out is all I’m saying.

Of course some blogs don’t have links at the bottom at all, and make me dig into the archives to see old content… And for these blogs a special place in Hell has been reserved.
