Split and Burned

Split and burned. That’s how I grew up eating hot dogs, and to this day the only way mom will eat them at all. I’ll eat one just about any way you want to cook it, but I have to admit it’s my preference, too. I’ve at least modernized the process, however, by cooking them on a George Foreman Grill rather than in a frying pan.

I would say it’s a Southern thing, but I haven’t met too many folks who’ve had a hot dog this way, and good luck finding one at a restaurant. Even a restaurant that only sells hot dogs.

Doesn’t look too appetizing, I admit, and certainly not healthy, but there ain’t no such animal as a healthy hot dog.

Tofu dogs are healthier than the standard, garden variety “mystery meat” hot dog. Though I must admit I haven’t actually eaten one. Probably would lie in one’s stomach like a lead brick or something.

So if its a Southern thing to eat split, nearly burnt hot dogs, do you also eat fried bologna sandwiches too?
