I blame the school system

While we’re on the subject, another dead giveaway of the “I’m trying to sound smart” syndrome is the use of “one” instead of “you.”

Of course, I could be overreacting. It’s probably also a result of trying to sound “proper.” Throughout school we were all constantly admonished against the evils of writing in the second person. I guess some folks never catch on that it’s OK to say “you” sometimes.

People trying to sound smart might also use a word like “admonish.”

Eh. It’s all right to use “one” on occasion. I do it to annoy people. Heh.

Of course, I tend to use “one” with people easily offended by the use of “you”. They take it on such a personal level. Blech!
