So, yeah, stuff has been happening

As I mentioned last week, stuff is going on. It’s not proceeding at a rapid pace, but it’s happening.

Firstly, my roommate of many years is getting married next year, and seeing as how I’m living in his house, that means I have to find some new digs by then. I could just go find an apartment, but I’m to the point in life where I should be buying rather than renting. Financially, I’m not where I wanted to be when the time came to buy, but life tends to happen sometimes.

Really, though, it’s one of those situations where you eventually have to bite the bullet, because you’re never as ready as you want to be. So, I’ll be hunting a townhouse or condo early next year. I’m getting into the idea of having my own place, but it’s intimidating. I’m once again flirting with the idea of a second job… but then again, I never seem to get past the flirting stage, so who knows?

Not helping matters is an ever-growing “sword of Damocles” feeling I have about my car. It keeps going and going (knock on wood), but I’m pushing 130k on the odometer, and I’m starting to think about how much time I have left on it. I know lots of cars last way longer, but I’m not the type who like to be nickeled-and-dimed by repairs, even if the repairs still amount to less than a car payment in the long term. I like to know what will happen when I turn the key.

I’ve really gotten used to the idea of having a car that’s completely paid for, though, so maybe it’ll make it longer. Although a new (to me) truck would be kinda cool…

Anyway, there’s other stuff going on, some of which merits a post that I’ve been writing in my head for at least a month, but that’s a story for another day. For now, it’s off to Scarowinds this weekend. I’ll be taking my camera, although that may be an exercise in futility once the sun goes down. But, you never know when you might get lucky.
