So, how am I doing, anyway?

If you ask me how I am or how I’ve been doing, the answer is going to be, with 99% probability, either “not bad,” or “alright.” Furthermore, if the answer is “alright,” I will say it in the perfect tone of voice so that you can’t tell whether I’m answering your question, or asking one of my own. This is designed to put the onus of continuing the conversation entirely on you.

In a similar vein, if you were to ask what I’ve been up to, I’d say “nothing.”

Or, well, now that I think about it, I’d probably say “same old.”

This is not empirically true.

It’s a habit of mine to generalize. The events of my life tend to blur together. One day doesn’t seem significantly different from the next. I have to step back and look at the bigger picture to get a sense of change. Even then sometimes it seems to me like it’s the same story with different scenery. But I have to be objective, so I am.

Stuff is going on, man.

The problem with “sanitizing” my blog of personal detail is that it not only becomes way less interesting to read, but to write, too.
