As far as getting coins back, you're going to get them from the cashier when you cash in your voucher anyway, so why can't the machine just go ahead and do it? I notice on the website that some of the newer machines can issue a cash card, which would make this conversation moot, but I've yet to see one in the wild. Also, the reason you took your coin to the machine was to get 'rid of coin' therefore, why would you want anything back? That's why I would be happy if they had a machine like that at the bank and then take the voucher to them so they could do a direct deposit without having to deal with cash start with.
