A penny saved…

Why doesn’t the Coinstar machine just round your cash voucher down to the nearest dollar and give you back the excess change?

From a design stand point, I guess that is one extra feature to deal with, in having a slot to return money, instead of something to just spit out a voucher. Also, the reason you took your coin to the machine was to get ‘rid of coin’ therefore, why would you want anything back?

That’s why I would be happy if they had a machine like that at the bank and then take the voucher to them so they could do a direct deposit without having to deal with cash start with.

    Just my ‘two cents’ worth.

It’s already got a slot for rejected coins that couldn’t be sorted, so it could just use that. As far as getting coins back, you’re going to get them from the cashier when you cash in your voucher anyway, so why can’t the machine just go ahead and do it?

I notice on the website that some of the newer machines can issue a cash card, which would make this conversation moot, but I’ve yet to see one in the wild.
